TWO IMPORTANT FRONTLINE REMINDERS
NEW ACCOUNT = GENERALLY FIRST 30 CALENDAR DAYS
Account-opening date alone doesn't always determine new-account status. Institution procedures should be followed.
SUSPICIOUS ≠ AUTOMATIC REASONABLE-CAUSE HOLD
A suspicious-looking transaction does not automatically justify a Regulation CC reasonable-cause hold. Specific facts must support a well-grounded belief that the check is uncollectible.
THE FRONTLINE RULE
A HOLD IS A FUNDS-AVAILABILITY DECISION — NOT A FRAUD DETERMINATION.
Employees should remain within their assigned authority, use their institution's current availability schedule and procedures, obtain required approvals, and provide required notices.
IDEAL FOR
Bank tellers, credit union tellers, universal bankers, personal bankers, branch managers, teller supervisors, new-hire onboarding, Regulation CC refresher training, operations teams, and financial-institution trainers.
